Active RFID applications include perimeter and gate access control for production facilities, distribution centres, loading and unloading docks, restricted areas and private parking areas.
Examples:
- Protrac active 24/7 long life tags attached to road transport, rolling stock and cargo monitor and identify vehicles up to 150 feet (50 metres) away, travelling at up to 220 kph.
- Tags attached to any size or shape vehicle are easily identified in all environments for automatic vehicle identification in access control applications to operate gates and open barriers hands free while maintaining a record of the vehicle’s identity.
- In mining and infrastructure development, active RFID readers track and identify vehicles and machinery for process control, weighing, traffic control and access control both above and below ground.
White Paper: Evaluation of Protrac Active RFID Equipment prepared for Anglo Platinum Mining by the RFID Institute of South Africa - In residential applications, tags identify and admit vehicles to gated communities and other private parking areas. Similar systems utilise tags to identify pleasure boats restricting entry to locks and other barriers used in secure marine residential communities.
