Needs:

Modern transport fleets are already fitted with on board computers and integrated GPS which connects to centralized fleet management software via GPRS/GSM/Satellite. This system records data on vehicle performance, location, route, etc. However, GPS cannot tell the computer what a truck is hauling, who is driving it, and which truck is which when trucks are present at weighbridges and checkpoints.

Solution:

Protrac iD active tags provide required data automatically, without driver input.

Deployment:

  1. In order to identify each truck and maintain a record of its progress on the route, a Protrac iD receiver is connected to the fleet management system on board computer in the drivers cabin and the antenna is mounted externally on a metal cabin, or behind a bulkhead if fiberglass.
This receiver monitors Ultra Long Range tags fixed to the trailers to identify which trailers are being hauled 24 × 7.
  2. To protect valuable cargoes, tags are attached to inventory to positively identify what inventory is on board or being hauled at all times. On car transporters, they can be used to identify which car was actually delivered where
  3. ID tags are worn by drivers to positively match the truck ID to the driver’s ID. An optional button on the tag can be activated by the driver inside or within 50 metres of the cabin for user defined purposes e.g. to stop machinery, or activate a holdup or duress alarm.

The above examples are provided for illustrative purposes only. Tracking system design and deployment depends on the customer’s specific needs.
