OEM is one of Australia’s leading designers of process control software and systems. One of their solutions is a system that controls the speed of fork lift trucks operating in pedestrian areas to ensure compliance with strict OH&S regulations and reduce legal liability.
Protrac iD Ultra Long Range RFID tags are inserted into 28mm holes drilled into the floor at the speed zone boundary points and a Protrac iD receiver and antenna are mounted on the fork lift and connected directly to an on-board controller. The speed of each forklift is automatically adjusted each time it passes over a tag with a code signifying a different speed zone, so that the vehicle speed is automatically reduced independently of the driver.
Similar technology with tags mounted in the ceiling is used to limit the height to which loads can be lifted in height restricted areas such as cold storage rooms.
